TEACHERS & SCHOOL STAFF

As educators, you give so much of yourselves every day, your time, your energy, your patience, and your care. Teaching is an incredibly rewarding profession, but it also comes with high levels of responsibility, emotional demands, and constant pressures. It’s easy to put your own needs last when you're focused on supporting your students, colleagues, and school community. But looking after your own wellbeing isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. When you prioritise your mental and physical health, you’re not only protecting yourself from burnout, but also setting a positive example for your students and creating a healthier, more balanced classroom environment.

Taking time to rest, reflect, and recharge is not selfish but what sustains your ability to keep doing this vital work with compassion and resilience. Whether it’s talking to a trusted colleague, seeking professional support, practising mindfulness, or simply stepping away for a few quiet moments during the day, every small act of self-care counts. Remember, your wellbeing matters. You cannot pour from an empty cup, and by taking care of yourself, you’re strengthening your capacity to care for others.

GETTING HELP

HELPING YOURSELF

Teachers can help themselves by actively making time for their own wellbeing, even in the midst of a busy schedule. Simple actions like setting boundaries between work and personal time, taking regular breaks, and prioritising sleep and healthy eating can make a big difference. Practising mindfulness, journaling, or engaging in hobbies outside of school can also help manage stress and maintain balance. Reaching out for support, whether through a colleague, mentor, or professional service, is a sign of strength, not weakness. Most importantly, teachers should remind themselves that self-care is not optional; it’s essential for sustaining both personal health and professional effectiveness.
