GETTING HELP

HOW TO HELP

Supporting a teenager through their mental health and wellbeing can be one of the most challenging parts of parenting—but also one of the most important. The teenage years are full of change, pressure, and emotional ups and downs, and it’s not always easy to know how to help. You might feel shut out, unsure of what to say, or worried you’ll say the wrong thing. But simply being there, listening without judgment, showing patience and creating a safe space to talk can make a world of difference. Even if they don’t open up right away, your presence and care help build trust and show that they’re not alone.

It’s important to remember that you don’t have to have all the answers. What matters most is being supportive, noticing when something feels off, and being willing to seek help together if needed. Encouraging healthy routines like regular sleep, balanced meals, physical activity, and screen time boundaries also plays a big role in supporting their wellbeing. Parenting through this stage is tough, and it’s okay to find it overwhelming at times. But your efforts, even when they feel unnoticed, are incredibly valuable. Helping your teenager feel seen, heard, and supported is one of the most powerful things you can do for their mental health.
