GETTING HELP

GETTING HELP

Being a teenager comes with a lot of pressure, school, exams, friendships, family, social media, and figuring out who you are. It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, or low at times. These feelings don’t mean something is wrong with you, they mean you're human. But when these emotions start to feel too heavy or last for a long time, it’s important to recognise that you don’t have to deal with them alone.

Common mental health issues that affect teenagers include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, eating disorders, and struggles with identity or self-worth. These can be triggered by anything from bullying and academic stress to problems at home or changes in your body and brain. It’s also common for young people to feel like they have to hide how they’re feeling or pretend to be okay but bottling things up can make things worse over time.

Asking for help is a strong and positive step toward feeling better. Whether it’s talking to a friend, teacher, family member, or a mental health professional, opening up can help lighten the load. There is no shame in needing support, everyone does at some point. Talking about your feelings doesn’t make you weak; it shows that you value yourself enough to get the help you deserve. You’re not alone, and with the right support, things can and do get better. Reaching out could be the first step toward feeling more like yourself again.
